Storage destinations
Storage destinations
Every place Unicam can record to, from Google Drive and Dropbox to S3, Backblaze B2, Cloudflare R2, Wasabi, a NAS, a USB drive or rclone, and how to choose.
Updated 17 October 2026
Footage always lands on the hub first, then goes to every destination you add. Add as many as you like: every clip goes to all of them, through a retry queue that survives restarts and outages.
The options
| Destination | Good for | Setup |
|---|---|---|
| Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive | Using storage you already pay for | One-tap sign-in. Details |
| S3-compatible: AWS S3, Backblaze B2, Cloudflare R2, Wasabi, MinIO | Lots of cameras, 24/7 recording, low cost per TB | Bucket, endpoint and keys. Details |
| WebDAV: Nextcloud, Synology, ownCloud | Your own cloud at home or hosted | Address, username, password |
| Folder, NAS share or USB drive | Fast local copies with no monthly cost | Any path mounted on the hub |
| rclone | Any of rclone’s 100+ providers | Run rclone config on the hub, then enter remote:path |
How to choose
- A few cameras in Events mode: your existing Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive is plenty.
- 24/7 recording or many cameras: use S3-compatible storage like Backblaze B2 or Cloudflare R2, or a NAS. Consumer drives have daily upload limits (Google Drive allows 750 GB a day per user) and free tiers fill fast.
- Belt and braces: add a local NAS or USB drive and a cloud destination. If the internet goes down, the local copy keeps going; if someone takes the hub, the cloud copy is safe.
Encrypted by default
Uploads are end-to-end encrypted: each file is sealed with AES-256-GCM on the hub before it leaves your home, so your provider stores only ciphertext. See Encryption and your recovery key.
Keeping it tidy
Retention runs automatically and every destination can have its own size limit, so Unicam never fills your Drive. See Retention and disk space.
Sharing a clip
From an event, Share link creates a link from your own cloud: Google Drive (anyone with the link), Dropbox or OneDrive (expiring where your plan allows), or an S3 pre-signed link valid for up to 7 days. It works for destinations without encryption, because encrypted clips can only be opened with your key. For police or insurance, a signed export pack is often better.
