Get Unicam on every device.
Two pieces: a hub that records, on something you already own, and the apps you watch on. Unicam is in early access, so installers and app builds go out with your invite.
Step 1 The hub
Pick where the recorder runs
Every hub starts a 3-day free trial of Pro the first time it runs.
- Early access
Mac
The desktop app is the hub. Install it and this Mac records every camera in the background, from the menu bar.
- Camera wall, timeline and settings in the same app
- Keeps recording when the window is closed
- Shuts the hub down cleanly when you quit
- Early access
Windows
The same desktop app for Windows PCs. The PC becomes the recorder and your camera wall.
- Records in the background
- Best on a desktop that stays on
- Same app, same features as Mac
- Early access
Raspberry Pi
A Pi 4 or 5 makes a silent, always-on hub. One installer sets up a hardened service with hardware video decode.
- 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS (Bookworm), Debian or Ubuntu
- Starts on boot, runs as its own locked-down user
- Prints the hub address and pairing code when done
Raspberry Pi guide →$ sudo ./deploy/raspberry-pi/install.sh - Early access
NAS & Docker
Run the hub with Docker Compose on Synology, QNAP, Unraid, TrueNAS, a mini-PC or any server, and record to its disks.
- Host networking for camera discovery and live video
- Runs as an unprivileged user
- Mount a NAS share or USB disk for recordings
Docker & NAS guide →$ docker compose up -d - Early access
Home Assistant
Install the hub as a Home Assistant add-on, next to the rest of your smart home.
- Pair from the add-on’s web UI
- Same hub, same features
- Advanced
Your own server
No machine at home? Run the hub on a VPS you control, and have cameras that support RTMP push send their video to it.
- Per-camera port and stream key
- Footage still never touches Unicam’s servers
- No discovery or pan/tilt in this mode
Step 2 The apps
Watch on every screen
iPhone & iPad
Coming to the App Store
Live wall, timeline, alerts and search, with the Apple Watch app included.
- Early-access builds go out with invites
Android
Coming to Google Play
The same app for Android phones and tablets. The Wear OS app installs from the Play Store on your watch.
- Early-access builds go out with invites
Web app
Built into your hub
Every hub serves the Unicam web app. Open the hub’s address in any modern browser and install it as an app.
- Works on any computer or tablet
- Browser notifications for alerts
Apple Watch & Wear OS
With the phone apps
Switch mode, snooze alerts, check the hub and see recent events with stills. Pairs automatically through your phone.
- Included on Plus and Pro
On a Mac or Windows PC, the desktop app from step 1 is also your app. Pairing a new device takes a QR code or a 6-digit code: how pairing works →
Requirements
What you need
Recording copies each camera’s video without re-encoding, so the hub needs far less power than you might expect.
- Network
- The hub on the same network as your cameras (except own-server setups)
- Cameras
- ONVIF or RTSP: most IP cameras, NVRs and DVRs. Check yours on the cameras page
- Raspberry Pi
- Pi 4 or 5, 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS (Bookworm), or any Debian/Ubuntu machine
- Docker
- Any Docker host with Compose and host networking
- Ports
- 7700 (app and API) and 8555 TCP/UDP (live video) on your local network. Never forward them to the internet
- Resources
- About 80 MB of memory plus about 50 MB per camera; about 0.4% CPU per camera
- Remote access
- Tailscale on the hub and your phone (free for personal use)
Get your invite.
Installers and app builds go out with early-access invites, in waves. Every invite starts with a 3-day free trial of Pro.
