Adding cameras

Import recordings from an SD card

Bring the clips already on your cameras' memory cards into Unicam, with their original times, including Dahua, Imou and CP PLUS .dav files.

Updated 17 October 2026

Switching to Unicam doesn’t mean losing what’s already on your cameras’ memory cards.

What you can import

  • .mp4, .mov, .mkv, .avi, raw .h264 / .h265 and .ts files
  • .dav files from Dahua, Imou and CP PLUS cameras

Many cameras put the recording time in the file name (for example 20261012_143005.mp4, or Dahua’s 14.30.05-14.31.05[M][0@0][0].dav). Unicam reads it, so imported clips land at the right place on your timeline.

How

  1. Take the card out of the camera and put it in a card reader on the hub computer.
  2. In the app, open Storage and choose Import from SD card.
  3. Enter the card’s path on the hub (or a folder you copied it to), pick which camera the footage belongs to, and tap Start import.
  4. Unicam shows progress. You can close the sheet: the hub keeps importing in the background.

Imported footage is treated like any other recording: it goes to your storage destinations, encrypted, and follows your retention rules.

Where it can read from

For safety, import only reads from removable media and your home folder on the hub.

After importing

You can leave the card out. With Unicam recording to your own storage, the camera no longer needs it, and a stolen camera no longer takes your footage with it.
