Changelog
What’s new.
What’s new in Unicam, newest first. 36 changes so far.
Early access
- New
Omnicam is now Unicam
Same app, new name and a new home at unicam.si.
- Improved
Camera sign-in that knows your app
Add camera now asks which app you set the camera up with, names the password the way that app does (Safety Code, Camera Account, verification code), shows where to find it, and explains exactly why a login failed.
Which password? → - New
Smart 24/7 recording
Record the low-res sub-stream around the clock and full quality around events, for a gap-free timeline at a fraction of the storage.
Record modes → - New
Use your camera’s own motion detection
Unicam can listen to motion events from cameras that detect on-chip over ONVIF, saving hub CPU, and falls back to its own detection automatically.
- New
Telegram alerts
Connect a Telegram bot to get alerts, optionally with a snapshot. The bot token is stored encrypted on your hub.
Alerts → - New
Share a clip from your own cloud
Create a share link for an event from Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or S3, expiring where the provider supports it.
- New
Run the hub on your own server
Cameras that support RTMP push can send video to a hub on your own server, gated by a per-camera stream key.
Own-server guide → - New
Storage limit per destination
Cap how much of your Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive Unicam may use. It removes its own oldest files first, never starred ones, and warns you at 90% of the account’s quota.
Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive → - Improved
Browsable folders on consumer drives
Footage is joined into 10-minute files before uploading to Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive: far fewer files and no rate-limit trouble.
- New
Plans and license keys
Essential, Plus, Pro and Business plans with camera limits per hub, add-ons, and license keys that the hub verifies itself. Every hub starts with a 3-day free trial of Pro.
Plans and trial → - New
Apple Watch and Wear OS apps
Switch mode from a complication or tile, make cameras private, snooze alerts, check hub status and see recent events with stills. Pairs automatically through your phone.
Watch apps → - New
Alert snooze and quick actions
Snooze alerts for 30 minutes, an hour or until 7:00, and mark alerts seen or starred without opening the app, on your phone or watch.
- New
Package delivered and taken alerts
Door cameras notice parcels arriving and leaving, detected on your hub. Turn it on per camera, and see delivered and taken chips on events.
- New
Signed evidence export packs
Select clips and export a signed, hash-chained ZIP with snapshots for police or insurers, with an offline verifier anyone can use to check it hasn’t been altered.
- New
Overnight H.265 compression
Older H.264 footage is recompressed on the hub’s hardware encoder overnight, about 40% smaller, and the cloud copies are replaced. The app shows how much it saved.
- Improved
Android connects to home and Tailscale hubs
The Android app now reaches hubs on your local network and over Tailscale reliably.
- New
QR and link pairing
Pair a new device by scanning a QR code or opening a link from a paired one.
Pair a device → - New
Savings calculator
Onboarding adds up your real vendor plans and SD cards so you can see what switching saves, and the sidebar shows your yearly savings.
- Improved
Much faster everywhere
The camera grid paints almost instantly from cached snapshots, live view starts 2.4× sooner, the app downloads about 80% smaller, and Live keeps one stream when you switch layouts.
- Improved
A new design
Home, Live, Timeline, Alerts, Storage, Add camera, onboarding and settings redesigned, with a desktop camera wall and clear empty, loading and offline states.
- New
Disk guard
When the hub’s disk runs low, the oldest already-uploaded footage goes first. Nearly full, recording pauses and you get an alert instead of a silent failure.
Retention and disk space → - Fixed
A sturdier hub
The hub keeps running when its disk is full, and always shuts down promptly, even with live views open.
- Security
Internal security audit: 14 findings fixed
Every issue from an internal audit is fixed and covered by regression tests. Recovery keys now use an unambiguous grouped format, links never carry your device token, and cameras can only be added with safe stream addresses.
- New
Watch from anywhere with Tailscale
The hub detects Tailscale and the app switches between your home network and your tailnet automatically. No port-forwarding.
Remote access → - New
The Mac app is the hub
The desktop app runs its own hub in the background and records from the menu bar, so there’s nothing else to install.
- New
Apps for iPhone, iPad, Android and the web
One app on every screen, with Home/Away/Night modes, privacy tiles, a daily recap, AI search, detection boxes, timeline thumbnails and SD-card import.
- New
AI search
Describe what you’re looking for in plain English and Unicam ranks events across every camera, privately on your hub.
- New
Home, Away and Night modes
Indoor cameras can pause completely in Home mode, and each mode has its own alert types.
- New
Daily recap
A 30-second highlight reel of each day across every camera, people first.
- New
Person, vehicle and animal detection
Every event is classified on your hub in about 70 ms, with an Apache-licensed model.
- New
Timeline thumbnails
Scrub the timeline with thumbnails, tidied away automatically with your retention settings.
- Improved
H.265 cameras play everywhere
H.265 cameras get an automatic H.264 live stream for browsers and devices that can’t play H.265.
- New
Camera health
See each camera’s status, codec and bitrate live.
- Improved
Better camera discovery
The network scan recognises Imou and Lechange cameras and reports the hardware model.
- New
Raspberry Pi, Docker and Home Assistant
Install the hub on a Pi with one command, run it with Docker on a NAS, or add it to Home Assistant. Plus an offline decrypt tool for your footage.

The Unicam hub
Records every camera without re-encoding, detects motion, encrypts every clip end to end and uploads to the storage you choose, with alerts to your devices.
