Troubleshooting
Hub offline or storage problems
What to do when the app can't reach your hub, the hub's disk is filling up, uploads are stuck or your cloud is nearly full.
Updated 17 October 2026
The app can’t reach the hub
- Is the hub running? On a Mac or PC, the desktop app must be open (it can be in the menu bar) and the computer awake. Recording stops while it sleeps. On a Pi, run
systemctl status unicam-hub. With Docker, docker compose ps. - Away from home? You need Tailscale on both the hub and your phone. See Remote access.
- Hub address changed? If the hub’s local IP changed, give it a fixed (reserved) address in your router.
- Signed out? If the device’s session was revoked, pair it again. See Pair a device.
“Storage full” or “Recording paused”
The hub’s own disk is nearly full. The disk guard has already deleted the oldest footage that was safely uploaded, and paused recording rather than fail silently.
- Lower the local disk cap, or free space on the hub’s disk.
- Check uploads are working (below): footage that can’t upload can’t be pruned first.
- Switch busy cameras from Continuous to Events or Smart 24/7. See Record modes.
- Move the hub’s footage to a larger disk, such as a USB SSD or NAS share.
Uploads are stuck or “backup issue”
Uploads go through a queue that retries with backoff, so short outages fix themselves. If it persists:
- Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive: sign in again from the destination’s settings. Check the account isn’t full.
- S3, B2, R2, Wasabi: check the keys still exist and can write to the bucket. If you changed the endpoint, re-enter the keys; Unicam clears them on purpose.
- NAS or USB: check the share or drive is still mounted on the hub.
“Cloud account nearly full”
Unicam warns you daily once a consumer drive passes 90% full. Set or lower the destination’s Storage limit so Unicam removes its own oldest files first. See Record to Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive.
Plan or license messages
If the app asks for a plan, your trial or subscription has ended, or the hub couldn’t verify your license for more than 7 days. See License keys.
