Adding cameras
Which password does my camera want?
The camera's own password is never your Wi-Fi password or your app login. Here is what it is called, and where to find it, for each camera app.
Updated 17 October 2026
Every IP camera has its own login, separate from your Wi‑Fi and from the app account you use with it. That’s the one Unicam needs. The two most common mistakes are typing the Wi‑Fi password or the app login; both will be refused.
Find the app you set the camera up with:
| App you use | Username | Password is called | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Imou Life | admin |
Safety Code (SC) | On the camera’s label after “SC:”, 8 characters. Or the device password you set in Imou Life |
| Tapo | One you create | Camera Account | Tapo → camera → Settings → Advanced → Camera Account. Create one just for Unicam |
| EzyKam+ (CP PLUS) | admin |
Device password | The one you made when adding the camera. Reset it in EzyKam+ → Settings |
| Reolink | admin |
Camera password | The one you set in the Reolink app. Reset in Settings → Advanced → User management |
| EZVIZ | admin |
Verification code | On the camera’s label, 6 capital letters |
| Hik‑Connect (Hikvision) | admin |
Device password | Set when the camera was activated. Ask your installer |
| DMSS (Dahua) | admin |
Device password | Set at first setup. Some cameras print a Safety Code |
| Amcrest View | admin |
Camera password | The camera’s web login |
Tapo: the username isn’t admin
Tapo is the exception. You create both a username and a password in the Camera Account screen. Your TP‑Link ID won’t work, on purpose. Creating the Camera Account is also what switches local streaming on.
Imou and Dahua lock after wrong tries
Many Dahua-based cameras (Imou, CP PLUS, Dahua, Amcrest) lock themselves for 30 minutes after 5 wrong passwords. Unicam counts the tries left and warns you before the last one. If it does lock, nothing is broken: wait it out, then try the right password.
Never set a password?
Look for a sticker on the camera or its box with a code next to “SC”, “Safety Code” or “Verification Code”. If there’s nothing, the camera’s app usually has a Device password option in its settings where you can set one.
Installed by someone else?
Hikvision, Dahua and similar systems are often activated by an installer, who set the admin password. It is commonly on the handover sheet.
